Spring Festival 2020
In conjunction of the Golden Mouse lunar year of 2020, our association has specifically chosen the ‘Wa! Shulaibao’ as the theme of this spring festival and specially created two giant mice of ‘wealth and treasure’ as the mascot for this year of mouse. The design of this mascot features a mouse standing on a rice bucket, holding a tael, indicating ‘a bucket mouse is never short of food’. This is to wish everybody abundance of wealth, food and a life full of dignity. ‘Wealth and treasure’ is of 21 ft. height with a 10-ft diameter for the bucket and 13-ft height for the mouse.
Apart from the mascot, the association has also specially prepared peace bags for the tourists and worshippers at Thean Hou Temple. These peace bags are crafted from Putian City in Fujian Province, China. Within every bag there is a replica of ancient Kangxi coin of the Qing Dynasty.
In term of festival performance, it will also be based on the ‘Wa! Shulaibao’ theme. The Hainan Association will be cooperating with EXES Art & Performance to present a series of mouse themed operas and plays. Among them are custom folk tales of ‘Marriage of the mouse’ and ‘Birthday celebration of the king of mice’. ‘Marriage of the mouse’ will be performed as an opera with a touch of percussion music so that the content is richer. Other parables include ‘Brilliant idea of the mouse’ and ‘Country mouse and urban mouse’.

Meticulously crafted by the Selangor and FT Hainan association, the 12 zodiac sculpture park is located on the right side of Thean Hou Temple. Connected by a trail of cobble stones, arrangement of the sculptures seems irregular at first sight. Every season has its distinguished model that comes in different sizes. Signboards in Chinese, Malay and English languages are also available so that visitors could understand the 24 solar seasons easier.

The 24 filial stone statues are the Gutian green special-grade stone statues imported from Hui-an District, Fujian Province, China. Each statue weighs 1 to 3 tonnes with a height of more than 6 ft. and 8 inches.
Each statue comes with explanation in Chinese, Malay and English languages so that not only the Chinese will be able to understand the good virtues of their own ancestors, visitors of other races and foreigners too will be able to apprehend the wonderful Chinese culture.
