In this remarkable 2022, the Selangor & Federal Territory Hainan Association has put the Hainanese Tiger Dance in the spotlight.
In fact, the Hainanese Tiger Dance has been listed in the Hainan Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage List since 2009. This dance was believed to be originated from Dynasty Ming and later widely spread to the Hainan Island.
The 8-foot-tall twin icons (the width is 3 feet , the length is 4 feet) of the Hainanese Tiger Dance are placed on a 1-foot-thick platform located at the entrance of the Thean Hou Temple Hall.
This Twin Icons of Hainanese Tiger Dance and Hainanese Tiger Dance Troupe was launched by Minister of National Unity YB Datuk Halimah Binti Mohamed Sadique on 21th January 2022.
The Malayan tiger is the symbol of bravery and strength for all Malaysians. It’s believed that the Hainanese Tiger Dance could be one of the ways to promote patriotism.
Tiger denotes strength, vitality and growth qualities that will hopefully stand us in good stead as we look to move past the uncertainty that Covid-19 and all those other disasters have wrought.
